They say the only constant in life is change, right? Well that’s never been more true than these past few months for me. New house, new responsibilities at work, kids becoming adults and this virus thing to name a few. So I apologize for the GoGetter being MIA but now we’re back.
Today I want to talk to you about the power of downtime and stillness.
Our minds have a lot going through them. Distractions that start when we wake up and continue until we crawl into bed. Whether we are staring at screens or thinking about the many things we have on our to-do list, many of us have our heads in overdrive.
As a result, we need to time to take our foot off the gas. Call it downtime, stillness, self-care or embracing the Higgye lifestyle, it’s time we start to cultivate this on a daily basis. Our bodies and your minds need time to rest. Without it, we risk burnout, sick time and a very unbalanced way of living.
Taking a nap, meditating, or walking in nature increases productivity, replenishes attention, solidifies memories and encourages creativity. Downtime can also provide a different outlet of productivity. You can learn a new practical skill, or gain some new experiences, focus on exercise, take up a new hobby, or more.
So take time each day to give yourself a break. Your body and mind depend on it.
Every Friday, I share lessons to my kids that can apply to everyone else.
