First, thanks for reading. I hope you like it. Sign up and get a new lesson every week.
Perhaps this occurs on Fridays more than any other day, but we all have days where we struggle to get going in the morning. Some days we look forward to our day and others, it feels like Mt. Everest.
We can dive into the reasons why you don’t have the motivation and go down a giant rabbit hole or we can follow some of the most simple advice I’ve ever received.
JUST SHOW UP.
It’s been said by a famous director, who I choose not to mention here, that "80 percent of success is just showing up."
For instance, did you show up at the gym today? If you did, you’re easily 80% of the way to a workout. You put on your gym clothes, you walked out the door and maybe dealt with some traffic. All that is left is the workout.
What about a project? You may dread a project that you have coming up or a test you have to study for but by simply opening up your computer and putting that cup of coffee on your desk, you’re 80% of the way there. And since you are here, you’ll likely just get started.
If you want to be a painter, just get the paints out and stand in front of the canvas. If you want to write that next great novel, just show up to that writing class or start writing thoughts down on paper. It makes sense that someone who arrives at the door of opportunity has a much greater chance of succeeding than someone who stays at home.
Remember, you and I are not perfect. We are both a constant work in progress. There is always room for improvement in every facet of life. Showing up each day is about being consistent and pushing to get better.
Don’t let doubt take root. Take a breath and get moving. You’ll be more than three-quarters of the way there.
