I don't know about you, but when I think of the hurdles that get in my way of success, it's often a lack of focus. 2020 has brought a wealth of challenges, but when we focus on one task at a time, our productivity increases and time becomes more valuable.
A great example of singled-minded focus to me is Lucian Freud. Lucian was the grandson of psychoanalyst Sigmund Freud and one of the most important figures of contemporary art.
He was known for his incredible portrait work. He painted models multiple times and required subjects to sit for hours at a time over many months. He had a near-obsession with detail and painted seven days a week right up until his death.
This dogged pursuit of painting resulted in Freud becoming one of the most expensive living artists of his time with one of his portraits selling for 34 million dollars.
While I don't intend to work seven days a week, Lucian Freud's passion, attention to detail, and ability to remain focused for incredibly long periods is inspiring.
Freud can serve as a reminder for all of us as well. The next time you are struggling to finish a project takes steps to increase your focus. Keep just one tab up on your browser, have a glass of water nearby, make lists and prioritize tasks, and commit to your work until it's completed.
Single-minded focus brings increased value and productivity to the task at hand, and as a bonus, your efficiency will give you time back.
